On 3–4 June 2026, the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague hosted the second run of the educational course “Systemic Coordination of the Patient Journey,” focused on the role of the care coordinator in oncology.
Following very positive feedback on the previous course, we repeated the programme six months later due to strong demand. Over two intensive days, participants had the opportunity to gain not only theoretical foundations but, above all, a practical insight into the everyday work of care coordinators—their competencies, responsibilities, and importance within the oncology care system.
Marian Rybář, expert advisor to the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and member of the research group at FBME CTU in Prague, together with Michaela Tůmová, Vice-Chair of the Committee of the Voice of Oncology Patients, presented the significance of care coordination from the perspective of its development in the Czech Republic, as well as from the standpoint of patients, healthcare facilities, and the systemic anchoring of the oncology care coordinator role.
Among those who shared their hands-on experience were coordinator Klára Vaňková and Jan Hajer, senior physician at the Institute of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Bulovka University Hospital. Tomáš Havryluk of Medevio and Adam Krbušek of Medicalc then introduced participants to specific telemedicine options, digital tools, and the challenges associated with coordinating the patient journey in the real-world operations of healthcare facilities.
We thank all the speakers, coordinators, and course participants for their active involvement, sharing of experience, and stimulating discussion. The strong interest in repeating the course confirms that care coordination is a highly topical issue in Czech healthcare, and that the coordinator’s role is of fundamental importance for the further development of accessible, comprehensible, and patient-oriented oncology care.
Participants can also look forward to further educational activities planned for autumn 2026. We are preparing follow-up courses for graduates of the previous runs, which will allow them to further develop the knowledge they have gained, share new experiences from practice, and deepen the competencies of care coordinators in oncology.
